As part of the implementation of the agreements reached following the Uzbek-Russian high-level meetings in 2024, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the Russian Ministry of Transport , as well as Uzbekistan Railways and Russian Railways signed a set of documents on the start of the project implementation, the Russian Transport Minsitry said.
In 2025, Uzbek design institutes, together with their Russian colleagues will ensure the preparation of sections of the feasibility study for the Trans-Afghan Railway railway project along the agreed routes, including in terms of determining the forecast for freight traffic volumes and economic efficiency.
Two routes have been identified: Mazar-i-Sharif - Herat - Dilaram - Kandahar - Chaman and Termez - Naibabad - Logar - Kharlachi.
The first session to discuss the project with the participation of colleagues from Pakistan Railways and a representative Afghan delegation will take place in the framework of the Russia-Islamic World forum in Kazan on May 15-16, 2025.
