President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of the 55 thousand-seat football stadium in New Tashkent Tuesday, the presidential press service said.
The president Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone for the project on November 11 of last year.
Reportedly, the construction work is proceeding at a high pace, with ground leveling work now complete, and the foundation work 95% finished.
As previously reported, the hosting of the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup has been awarded to Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
Three stadiums in each country will be used to host matches of this World Cup. FIFA requires that World Cup finals and semi-finals be held in stadiums with a capacity of over 50,000.
The head of state was given detailed information on the construction progress.
The 55,000-seater New Tashkent Stadium will be six stories tall. More than 10 escalators will be installed to ensure convenient and quick entry and exit for spectators. Three more training fields will also be located in the adjacent area. A metro station and a 5,500-space parking lot will be built next to the stadium.
The president emphasized that this was the first indoor stadium of such a capacity being built in Uzbekistan, so it was essential to focus on every detail and pointed out to the need to begin planning the landscaping work in the surrounding area today and implement it in stages.
