Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov on Sunday met with UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai in Samarkand.
The visit of the high-ranking guest, timed to Sharq Taronalari music festival , has provided a convenient opportunity for exchange of opinions and experience on the development of tourism in Uzbekistan, the Committee said.
The counterparts reportedly discussed the long-term cooperation plans with UNWTO “to promote Uzbekistan to become a recognizable destination and its tourist brand and marketing plans for entering highly liquid tourist markets, in particular China, Russia, Korea Republic, Indonesia, Malaysia and others.
The sides reached an agreement on training and retraining of tourism personnel, in particular in hospitality business and in various related industries (transport, catering, etc.) by organizing an internship for staff in the UNWTO secretariat on a permanent basis.
