Uzbekistan intends to give new momentum to its membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov saidat said at the meeting of the Heads of Government Council of the CIS member-states in Tashkent Friday. This is the first time Uzbekistan is hosting the event.

"Uzbekistan regards the CIS as a platform for an open and trust-based exchange of views on a wide range of issues. The Uzbek side intends to give a new dynamics to its participation in the CIS in a number of areas, primarily in trade, investment, transport, tourism, education, science, and security ", Uzbek PM said.

According to him, it is important to focus on creation of a full-fledged free trade zone in the CIS area, which should facilitate trade, setting up new capacities and creating jobs, developing and improving transport communications, implementing common tariff policy, tourism, jointly counteract against terrorism and extremism, expansion of scientific and technical cooperation.

"These areas of cooperation are of interest to all CIS countries without exception, and as whole will allow us to open a fundamentally new page in our ties," Aripov concluded.
