Kyrgyzstan has decided to return to Uzbekistan for temporary use the plots of land in Issyk-Kul province where four resorts (Golden Sands, Rohat-NBU, Dilorom, Buston) are located. The relevant governmental decree was signed by the Kyrgyz PM Sapar Isakov, the Kyrgyz government website said in a statement.
The decision was taken pursuant to the Treaty on Eternal Friendship signed between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 24, 1994 and is aimed at promoting tourism and attracting direct investments, the statement added.
Under the agreements, it is envisaged that the Uzbek side will withdraw the claim from the International Arbitration Court. Thus, an amicable settlement of all existing disputes will be achieved.
The Uzbek side pledges to invest funds in order to bring these facilities to 3- or 4-star hotels level in line with the standards applied in the Kyrgyz Republic.
During construction period, as well as during further operation, the Uzbek side will commit itself that at least 80% of the labor will be from among the citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
It is expected that the decision will increase the number of tourists from Uzbekistan, as well as contribute to the improvement of relations between the two fraternal people, the statement concluded.
