Uzbek Senate, at its plenary meeting on Wednesday, passed the Uzbekistan’s Defense Doctrine Bill, which envisages the creation of its own military-industrial complex, as well as the improvement of the organizational structure of the Uzbek Armed Forces.

The Military Doctrine Law, approved by the parliament in 1995, is currently in force in Uzbekistan. In 2000, the first president Islam Karimov approved the Uzbekistan Defense Doctrine Decree.

"The new bill is designed to combine these two existing documents. The Defense Doctrine Bill has been prepared taking into account the global and regional trends, the need to adequately respond to emerging threats and challenges," said the chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, Farrukh Dadakhodjaev.

The doctrine, like the previous two documents, is of a defensive nature and does not provide for the participation of the Uzbek army in overseas military operations, as well as the deployment of foreign military bases and facilities in Uzbekistan, and neither will Uzbekistan join military-political alliances and coalitions.

The new document provides for re-equipment of troops with modern weapons and military equipment, creation of its own military-industrial complex, improvement of the organizational structure of the Uzbek Armed Forces.
