President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a government meeting yesterday instructed to introduce Open Skies policy in Uzbekistan's three more international airports in Andijan, Nukus and Navoi.
In early February, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Measures to Boost Tourists Inflow Decree, which provides for the withdrawal of Karshi airport from the structure of Uzbekistan Airways, its hand-over to a private specialized company and introduction of open skies policy including for lowcosters.
The Karshi airport development concept should be prepared by July 1, based on the study of foreign experience.
The President criticized the passivity of Uzbekistan Airways with respect to cutting ticket fares, launching new flights and increasing transit flights.
As a result, thousands of Uzbek citizens are flying from neighboring countries (Shymkent city, Kazakhstan 120 km north to Tashkent), he noted.
The airline company was instructed to introduce market mechanisms of tickets sales, as well as modern passenger services.
He noted that within two days after introduction of visa-free regime for Israeli citizens, tickets for flights to Tashkent were sold out until the end of June. Given this, the company was ordered to add flights to countries with visa-free regime and to launch direct flights to Bukhara, Samarkand, Urgench, Navoi and Karshi.
