President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Ratification of the Convention of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Countering Extremism Bill into law. The document was published on Wednesday in the Xalq So’zi newspaper. The bill was passed by the Legislative Chamber and was approved by the Senate in March.

The convention was signed by the heads of the SCO member states at the SCO summit in Astana last June.

The document was ratified with notification and reservation. The State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General's Office have been assigned as the authority responsible for implementing the Convention in Uzbekistan.

"The provisions of the Convention regarding the possibility of applying confiscation of property towards legal entities and individuals as means of criminal punishment in the Republic of Uzbekistan shall not be valid as they are not in conformity with the Uzbek legislation," the law says.
