The Silk Road International Tourism University will open in Samarkand as of the 2018-2019 academic year, the Committee for Tourism Development said in a statement.
The initiative of opening the university by joint efforts was proposed by Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the SCO summit in Qingdao on June 10.
"The best professors in the field of tourism and students from all SCO countries will be studying here," Mirziyoyev said.
Initially, 100 people will study at the university, mainly Uzbek nationals. In the future, students from the SCO states will be admitted, the committee added.
