Shavkat Umurzakov, the former employee of the Prosecutor General's Office, has become the new chief of Uzavtosanoat, replacing Umidjon, who was in charge of the company since August last year. The sacking took place at a meeting devoted to Uzbek car industry chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Tuesday, and was reportedly due to “shortcomings in the work and unsatisfactory state of affairs in the industry”.
The meeting focused on the inefficiency of the localization measures, significant decrease in production and exports, debts and losses of the subsidiary enterprises, as well as corruption and fraud which "deep roots in the system".
The President instructed "to knock into shape" the Uzavtosanoat and eradicate corruption as soon as possible, stressing: where there is bribery, there will be no progress.
The head of state gave a special instruction to replace employees who impede the healthy growth of the industry, with new creative-minded young people who are ready to work for the sake of the people and the state, Shavkat Umurzakov said in an interview.
The President also instructed in a two-month period to develop Uzbekistan’s automotive industry development concept.
