The population of Uzbekistan as of July 1 stands at 32.9 million people, an increase by 243.4 thousand from 31 December 2017, or by 0.7%. The urban population is 16.646 million (or 50.6% of total population), and the rural population is at 16.254 million (49.4%), the Statistics Committee’s said in report.
324.3 thousand children (154.3 thous. Girls and 170 thous. boys) were born in six months. The birth rate was 20 ppm.
The number of deaths in January-June is 75.6 thousand people, or by 3,100 people less.
In total mortality, circulatory system diseases account for 61.3%, tumors - 9.3%, accidents, poisoning and traumas– 5.6%, diseases of digestive system - 5.5%, respiratory diseases - 4.3%, infectious and parasitic diseases 1.5%, other diseases - 12.5%.
In six months, 3,500 children died before the age of 1 year. The infant mortality rate was at 11.2 ppm (in January-September 2016 - 10.2 ppm). High rates of infant mortality are recorded in Tashkent, Khorezm, Andijan, Djizzak, Syrdarya provinces and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Of the total number of children who died before the age of 1 year, of which 59.6% died of conditions originating from perinatal period, 16.8% - respiratory diseases, 12.9% - congenital anomalies, 2.2% - accidents, poisonings and injuries, 2% - infectious and parasitic diseases, 0.48 - diseases of digestive system, 5.7% - other diseases.
In January-September, the civil registry office registered 104.9 thousand marriages and 16.4 thousand divorces, which is 6.5 marriages and 1 divorce per 1000 people.
