Webster University (USA) is launching its academic programs in Uzbekistan, the Foreign Ministry said. As part of the visit of the Uzbek delegation including the rectors of several universities In St. Louis, Missouri, cooperation agreements were signed with Webster University, providing for the opening of its branch in Tashkent, including the launch of the TESL (Teaching English as Second Language ) program with the Uzbek State University of World Languages as of September.
According to the agreements, about 100 students from 2018-2019 academic year will be admitted to the teaching of English courses. With huge demand for qualified English teachers, graduates of the program will be able to land a job in many universities, colleges and language schools, including foreign schools.
"We wholeheartedly support the reform program in Uzbekistan aimed at training highly qualified teachers, and our university is ready to contribute to this," said Webster University President Elizabeth Strobl.
According to vice-president of Webster University Julian Schuster, the successful implementation of the TESL program and the testing of online training in computer technology and business administration will ensure the full accession of Webster University to the Uzbekistan educational system.
Webster University will be the first American university to open its representative office in Uzbekistan. The agreement on its opening was signed at the Uzbek-American business forum that took place during the visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to New York in September 2017.
However it was reported earlier that a full-fledged Webster University would be opened in Uzbekistan.
