President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today arrived in Tashkent on a two-day state visit. At the Islam Karimov airport, the high guest was welcomed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

This is the first state visit of a Tajik leader to Uzbekistan in 17 years.

Emomali Rahmon then visited Mustakillik Square and laid flowers to the Monument of Independence and Humanism.

The two leaders will discuss the ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the political, trade-economic, transport and communication spheres, tourism, cultural-humanitarian and inter-provincial cooperation, and will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. A number of important accords are expected to be signed, including a strategic partnership agreement.

As part of the visit, an exhibition of industrial products "Made in Tajikistan" and a concert by the singers of the two countries will be held in Tashkent. The Uzbekistan-Tajikistan business forum was held yesterday. Emomali Rahmon will also visit Samarkand, where he will visit the sights of the ancient city.

In March, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Tajikistan on the first state visit.
