The Ministries of Justice of Uzbekistan and Iran signed a memorandum of cooperation, the Uzbek Ministry of Justice. The document was reportedly signed in Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyz Republic) within the framework of the Sixth Meeting of the Ministers of Justice of the SCO Member States.
The purpose of the Memorandum is to develop cooperation in the legal sphere in line with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, as well as the establishment of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange of experience.
According to the Memorandum, cooperation will be carried out in protection of human rights and civil liberties, rulemaking, legal services, training and of legal personnel and in other areas.
Also, the Memorandum provides for holding conferences, seminars, lectures, exchanging information on the practice of drafting legal norms, as well as legal literature and other publications, exchanging reciprocal delegations.
The Memorandum is said to serve to "strengthen bilateral ties, as well as create a legal basis for effective legal cooperation between the ministries of justice of the two countries".
