Iman Karimova, Gulnara Karimova’s daughter, is in London now, she said on her Instagram page. Her brother Islam Karimov Jr. lives in London.
On her Instagram page, Iman Karimova published photos from the London Underground and a lecture at the LSE, and before that she posted an image of her boarding pass for the Istanbul to London flight dated September 29. In response to questions, she wrote that she left for studies and would be back soon, adding a message which says “My mom is at home now”.
The General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed in a statement her departure to London. “There were no official obstacles to this,” the statement said.
However, the Prosecutor General’s Office did not confirm Iman Karimova’s statement that Gulnara Karimova is at home, noting that she [G. Karimova] “is serving the sentence.”
Last time Iman Karimova appeared in public was on August 31, 2017, when, together with her aunt Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, she laid flowers at the monument to Islam Karimov in Tashkent.
In July last year, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that Gulnara Karimova was in August 2015 sentenced to five years of restriction of liberty. At that time, the investigation of another criminal case against her was ongoing. The total amount of damage caused to the state in two criminal cases was estimated at 3.7 trillion soums, or US$ 400 million.
