Unfinished apartment buildings in Tashkent’s Mirzo-Ulugbek district erected with gross violations of technical and fire regulations are being demolished, Uzbekistan 24 reported.

These houses, built by a firm belonging to Muhammadbobur Hodjaev, are being reportedly destroyed as illegal buildings, under the oversight of the city mayor Jahongir Ortiqhodjaev and on the instruction of the Prime Minister Aripov.

Earlier, 4 girls from the same family were found to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning in late October in a house built by this very firm. As experts later found, the cause of the leak was non-compliance with standards when laying gas pipes.

The construction firm was unlucky to have come on the spotlight and now all of its buildings are being demolished.

Undoubtedly, all construction companies must comply with health & safety rules, however there are plenty of apartment houses across Uzbekistan that are being built in violation of health & safety rules, and the authorities turn a blind eye on such cases and act only when fatal accidents occur.

After the death of the girls, Jahongir Ortiqhodjaev dismissed the chief of the Yunusabad district gas supply authority for negligence of duties and reprimanded the mayors of the districts for the fact that "houses are being built under their nose that do not meet safety standards."
