President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on December 12 establishing the State Committee for Industrial Safety of Uzbekistan ​​ in place of the State Authority for Supervision of subsoil geological exploration, safe performance of works in the industry, mining and offsector under the Cabinet of Ministers.

The state-run entity will be the authority in the field of radiation and nuclear safety at nuclear power facilities and nuclear technologies, as well as for industrial safety at hazardous production facilities.

Its main tasks are supervision and control over compliance with industrial, radiation and nuclear safety legislation, contribution to the development of strategic plans and programs for the development of the oil and energy sector and basic industries, and licensing in the use of atomic energy.

The Department of Radiation and Nuclear Safety, the Angren, Almalyk and Kyzylkum mining technical inspection authorities have been established as part of the Committee.

The committee will have its registered office at: Tashkent city, C-14, 27.

The committee officials shall be entitled for access to the facilities, suspend work performed with violations of industrial, radiation and nuclear safety regulations or which could lead to an accident, evacuate people from workplaces when a threat arises, and bring to administrative responsibility for violations of regulation in the field technical regulation.
