The vice-president of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Mehmet Süreyya Er has been appointed as the new Turkish Ambassador to Uzbekistan, replacing Ahmet Başar Şen, who had in charge of the Turkish diplomatic mission since the end of 2016, Hürriyet Daily News reported.

Mehmet Süreyya Er has been serving as the TIKA Vice-President since 2012, and chief of the Central Asia and the Caucasus departments, as well as external relations and cooperation. Earlier, he was one of the leaders of the Department of Public Diplomacy in the office of the Turkish Prime Minister. In 2004–2010 he taught at the University of Michigan (USA).

He is fluent in English, Uzbek, French, Russian, Arabic and other languages.
