The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal for the rehabilitation of Samandar Qoqonov, who had served 22 years in prison, Aziz Abidov, a spokesman for the Supreme Court, said.

Samandar Qoqonov, 74, a former member of parliament, worked as a director of the Tashtransneftmahsulot (transl. Tashkent transport oil product) enterprise.

In 1994, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court. According to Liberty radio, he was charged of bribery, corruption and the creation of an organized criminal group.

Samandar Kukanov was released in 2016, and on April 22 of this year his team filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court demanding to rehabilitate him. The cassation instance of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court began the consideration of this criminal case on June 12.

Today, July 10, the judicial board ruled to alter the sentence of August 23, 1994 . Some articles were deleted from his sentence, some articles were left unchanged , other articles were re-qualified in accordance with the Criminal Code of the current edition (in 1994 he was tried under the Criminal Code of 1959).

The length of sentence of the former director of Tashtransneftmahsulot was left the same - 20 years imprisonment. The court noted that the term had been fully served.
