The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of development of agrarian and food spheres, Uktam Isayevich Barnoev, died at the age of 56, UzA reported. A source of Gazeta.uz in the government said that the politician had been undergoing treatment in Germany for the last week. A board has now been organized to return his body from a German hospital to Uzbekistan.
At the end of July, Uktam Barnoev, who was diagnosed with COVID-19, was treated in the Tashkent’s private clinic Akfa Medline.
Uktam Barnoev, 56, graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (1981−1986). He started his career as an engineer of the technical directorate of the 6th Bukhara regional administration of integrated enterprises (1986). He worked as deputy head of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Bukhara province for economics and reforms (1997-2000).
He held executive positions in the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (2000-2002). He worked as a lead specialist in the agro-industrial complex of the Cabinet of Ministers (2002-2004), head of the information and analytical Department of the Cabinet of Ministers on agriculture and water resources (2004-2005), head of the information and analytical Department on agriculture and water resources, processing of agricultural products and consumer goods consumption (2005-2007).
Uktam Barnoev also worked as First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources (2007-2008), governor of Samarkand province (2008-2010), headed the Republican Water Inspection of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (2011-2016), and was also the chairman of the board of JSC Uzagrokhimiya (2016).
He also served as governor of Bukhara province (2016-2020).
At the end of July, former chairman of Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan Musa Yerniyazov and ex-Deputy Minister of Finance Yorqin Tursunov died from complications caused by COVID-19, on August 22 - former interim Bukhara province governor Karim Kamalov. In early September, former mayor of Mirishkor district of Kashkadarya Gairat Begaliev and his deputy Mansur Rakhmonov died of bilateral pneumonia.
