On November 7, the Ministry of Innovative Development hosted a meeting which discussed the organization in Uzbekistan of the third phase of clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine produced in China.

According to the Minister of Innovation Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov, Chinese specialists have already arrived in Tashkent. An action plan is currently being drafted, with Chinese specialists familiarizing themselves with the family polyclinics selected for testing, and then they develop a structure for conducting the trials. It is expected that 10 doctors and nurses will be selected from each polyclinic.

“Yesterday four people arrived, and we are expecting the arrival of five more Chinese specialists. For four months, they will be working with us in the testing process. It is planned to conduct trainings with our doctors on how to vaccinate, in what order and how monitoring will be carried out,” he said adding that the trainings would begin this week.

Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov noted that two institutions were selected to coordinate the entire process - the Center for Advanced Technologies and the Research Institute of Virology of the Ministry of Health.

Earlier it was reported that 5,000 people are expected to participate in the tests. A sufficient amount of the vaccine has already been delivered to Tashkent and are being stored in special conditions.

He noted that the tests will not be carried out in the provinces. “We will hold it only in Tashkent city, for there must be certain conveniences. It is very important to organize an effective monitoring process,” he said.

In October, the Ministry of Innovation agreed with the Chinese Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical to conduct the third phase of vaccine trials in Uzbekistan. Later it became known that testers could be paid to participate in the study.

In a recent interview to Xalq So’zi (People's Word) newspaper, Ibrohim Abdurakhmanov said that it is not only the Chinese vaccine, but also its analogues from other countries would be tested in Uzbekistan.
