Uzbekistan has improved by twelve places to 97th spot in the 'Prosperity Index' ranking of 142 countries compiled by London-based Legatum Institute.

The 2013 Legatum Prosperity Index evaluates nations in eight pillars, including governance, education, health, economy, safety and security.

At the top of the index, Norway, ousted by Denmark from number one spot, is now second, followed by Switzerland, Sweden Finland and Netherlands.

Uzbekistan performed most strongly in Social Capital and Health pillars. The biggest improvement compared to a decade ago came in Safety & Security.

The country’s weakest pillars remained the natural environment (157th place), personal freedom (147th place) and the governance (136th place).
