The damage from corruption offenses of officials in 9 months surpassed 200 billion soums, or US 20 million, the Anti-Corruption Agency reported.
According to the agency, law enforcement agencies opened 838 criminal cases of corruption, in which 647 officials were prosecuted in 454 cases. Most of the officials - 261 (40.3%) - committed crimes under embezzlement charge.
Of the officials brought to criminal responsibility, 4 are officials of the republican level, 15 - at the regional, 626 - at the city and district levels.
Of those prosecuted, 7 are deputy mayors, 57 are employees of the Ministry of Health, 8 - of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations, 15 - the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education, 89 - the Ministry of Public Education, 36 - the Ministry of Preschool Education, 13 - the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement under the Prosecutor General's Office, 59 - the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 2 - the National Guard, 6 - the State Tax Committee, 3 - the Ministry of Defense. The list also includes one employee of the Prosecutor's Office, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Justice and the State Customs Committee.
In addition, among those accused of corruption were 34 executives of banks and 184 executives of enterprises with state shares.
Earlier, Prosecutor General Nigmatilla Yuldashev said that over the past two years in Uzbekistan, 1,986 officials were brought to justice for committing corruption crimes. The damage from such crimes is estimated at 2 trillion soums (almost $ 193 million).
