Tashkent city authorities plan to convert the 4.36-hectare site of the city's oncology center into an open public green park, the Tashkent city administration's press service reported.

The project is being carried out as part of the Green City concept. Once the existing buildings on the site are vacated, they will form the basis of a new youth center. Officials stressed that this facility will not encroach on the park's footprint or reduce the size of the green space.

Educational and creative centers, a library, co-working spaces, simulation workshops and startup studios will be housed inside the existing buildings. The structures themselves will not be demolished — they will instead be renovated and repurposed for new social uses.

"The project does not envisage the construction of separate business offices or other commercial facilities. The area surrounding the buildings will be landscaped and planted with greenery," the city administration said in its statement.

Officials said the bulk of the site will be transformed into a green park, with the existing buildings converted into educational and creative spaces, creating an open public space accessible to all city residents.

Uzbekistan previously announced that citizens who fund the creation of a public green park at their own expense would receive a state award. Under that initiative, anyone who plants at least 100 trees is granted the status of "eco-active citizen."
